Moving Day!!

It’s finally here! This will be the last official post on Turkey Tales (other than reminders of our NEW home!)

Before I make the big announcement, let me say that I am truly thankful for this little business I have. I am thankful for my family and friends and fans and followers and fellow applique/monogramming moms. What started as a proposal to my husband (which I was sure he’d think was CRAZY) has turned into an awesome adventure! When Mary Katherine wakes up to a surprise new shirt that I made her after she was sleeping like a little angel, it’s so sweet to hear “you made this for me?” “oh, thank you mommy!!!”

So, it’s not really just a ‘business’ for me – when I make something for one of my customers, I put lots of genuine thought and effort into it, as if I were making it for my daughter.

Ok, without further ado, I am very excited to announce … (drum roll please!) …

Please update!! If you have been so very kind as to add Turkey Tales to your blogroll, please update to Modern Mamas http://modernmamasblog.blogspot.com. If you ‘like’ Turkey Tales on Facebook, please visit and ‘like’ Modern Mamas Facebook page (currently under construction).

83!

No, that's not the number of orders I currently have, but I think it's close! Ha! We celebrated my grandfather's (aka Paw Paw) 83rd birthday on Sunday with a SURPRISE party. And was he surprised!! Here he is as we
all yelled "Surprise!" ...

Mary Katherine hurried over to give him a big hug!

And all the others followed! Where's Waldo - I mean Paw Paw?!

Aside from mailing invitations and coordinating who did what, I started doing actual party STUFF on Friday night. I MADE this super duper cute birthday banner - and no, Lanie, I don't have a Cricket (?) - I used my small sized Pyrex bowl to trace and cut each individual circle by hand.

Next, birthday hats! A must, right?! Again, no Cricket (which has been added to my Christmas list BTW). I wanted the party to be fun for the kids, but didn't want it to be too kiddy since it was for Paw Paw. I decided on crowns for everyone.

Here's the special birthday crown...

And the other crowns for the kids which also doubled as decoration for the kid's table.

I actually used one of my applique designs as a template for the crowns!! The simple tiara design was perfect. I used Sew What Pro (couldn't live, or at least monogram/applique, without it!), brought the digital design up on my computer screen, traced onto a white piece of paper, then transferred to my craft paper. I felt sorta smart for coming up with such a good idea!!

Then comes the food! Y-U-M!!!

Thanks to my *sweet* friend Saundra for the awesome cupcakes! If you're in need of a custom cake for any occasion, cupcakes, etc. give her a holler. Look for more from this *sweet* friend coming soon (remember the big blog change/surprise I've been talking about - hint, hint!)

I just love the color coordination!!!

One last PLUG ... Mary Katherine's party outfit. Yep, you guessed it. Custom designed and sewn by Turkey Tales!

We had a wonderful time at the party! Lots of family, lots of kids, and beautiful weather! Thank you to everyone who helped make Paw Paw's birthday so special!! Special thanks to Ms. Teresa :)

We love you Paw Paw!

Simple Bunny!

I posted this sweet outfit on the Turkey Tales Facebook page and had lots of great feedback!

So simple, and cute! The monogram and bow are optional...

I love the girly-ness of this design! But, moms of boys, have no fear. This design can be just as cute for your little guy.

Remember a couple of posts ago I announced that Turkey Tales will be CHANGING OUR NAME!! It's almost time! The new blog design (which means a new web address) is almost complete!!!! I am so excited. I will continue to post during the transition time as well as providing everyone with the new information as it becomes available. Please, please, everyone, make the move with us :)

Plan B

Ok, so here's my excuse for the sparse blog posts of late. My computer has chosen not to read my camera's memory card ... and it's just not the same when I can't show you what I'm talkin' 'bout! Since I can't post what I was planning to post, here's Plan B. A few customer orders that I've been meaning to share.

Love both of these!!

Sunday before last we snapped a few pictures outside after church. I got this plain green dress for MK right after her birthday and finally got around to fixing it up. She loves to drive her Elt's tractor.

Then we had to feed Pete (the horse)...

That's all for now. If you're thinking of ordering something for Easter, order early! We'll be offering custom OUTFITS for Easter (jon jons, boy's casual shorts outfit, A-lines, knit dresses, and shirts). Photos coming soon...if my camera/computer cooperate! ;)

Polling the Audience

Turkey Tales has been very fortunate in attaining lots of followers - be it via the blog, the blogs of others, our Facebook page, or customer referrals. Technology + social networking = awesome marketing options!! THANK YOU to everyone, really, thank you :)

In an effort to ensure I don't lose any of you, I need a little feedback. Remember this post when I hinted some BIG changes coming soon to Turkey Tales? Well, here's change #1: Turkey Tales will be changing its name!! What does this mean for all of our followers? A new blog address!! Of course there will be lots more details to come during the transition time...lots of details that I'm literally busting at the seams to share with all of you...but, soon!!

Poll:

Will all of the Turkey Tales followers continue to follow us via the NEW blog site? Don't worry, the new site address is still to be announced, you haven't missed anything.

Will all of my *sweet* blog friends pretty please update their blog rolls with our new name and blog address once announced?

Vote. Comment. Email. Come on, don't be shy! This is a really big, important decision!!

I'll continue with my (almost) weekly, sometimes more than weekly posts about applique/monogram projects, custom outfits, random thoughts, crafty ideas, and my sweet, silly, ever-surprising, did I mention sweet? daughter, family events and updates - you know, the normal stuff. There will be more updates leading to the unveiling of the new blog and all that it will include, notices of any changes you may need to know about, and reminders of those changes because if you're like me, you have to be reminded about things.

Have a great weekend!! Can you tell I'm ready for some SUMMER?!

"Owl" Be Yours!

Got this idea from a *sweet* friend. And thanks to my *sweet* mom who went all over town looking for Valentines while I laid on the couch with a stomach bug!! But, I just can't help myself when construction paper is involved. Mary Katherine & I had so much fun making these together!
"Owl" always be your friend! :)

I already posted MK's Valentine outfit which was the most popular V-day design for the girls. And this one for the boys.
In other news, MK started gymnastics last week - FUN!!
In other, other news - STAY TUNED FOR SOME BIG CHANGES COMING SOON TO TURKEY TALES!! I don't want to give out too much info b/c it's still in the works. Just have to wait and see :)

Week In Revew:

It's been a busy 7 days! Where shall we start? ... Thursday and Friday consisted of preparing the cake and treats for Mary Katherine's 3rd birthday party. Oh how I love DIY projects.
The cake ingredients. So pretty just sitting there waiting. I chose not to include any pictures of MK sitting on the counter, covered in flour and confectioners sugar, "helping."
The finished project! And the birthday 'focal point' aka my kitchen table. The party theme was Strawberry Shortcake, but mostly included lots of red, pink, and green. Tissue paper flowers suspended from my curtain rod were a cute touch. The cake table also included chocolate covered marshmallows and a candy jar.
A quick Mommy & me pic before the party.
The birthday song. Might I add that the adorable outfit MK is wearing was designed and sewn by Turkey Tales! You know I had to get a plug!

Then comes the Monday after the party...
Pediatrician's office visit #1 = Upper Respiratory Infection. We get our meds and go on our merry way. A persistent cough and fever leads to Pediatrician's office visit #2 on Wednesday, ear infection, new antibiotic. What could be better than two trips to the ped's office in one week ... a sick ME! I never go to the doctor, you know moms don't have time to be sick! What I'd self-diagnosed as flu-monia-chitis turned out to be only a sinus infection. I had no idea a sinus infection could make you feel so bad!!!

I did get a little sewing done in the midst of all the sickness. Still have a couple more V-day shirts to finish amongst other things. Hope everyone has a great weekend. Heading home soon to Lysol my entire house and maybe even cast a spell to keep the germs away!!!

She's sooooo sweet. When I asked if we could take her picture she replied "sure!"
And here she is showing me she's THREE years old.

Happy, Happy Birthday to my sweet girl!!

P.S. A quick pic of our V-Day outfit ...

Bag Tags!

I packaged up my sewing machine and shipped it to Ken's Sewing Center yesterday for a tune up. Why does it seem that while I'm machineless I have so much time for sewing?!?! Withdrawals have set in, so I've been doing some applique shopping in my SPARE time. Once my machine is back home (hoping this coming week) these are on the top of my To Do list.

I love these bag tags (or anything tags). Check out Applique Momma for more tag designs. Great for apparel, room decor, organization, anything. The crafty part of brain gets excited when I think of the endless possibilities with fabric/font options. And since it's pretty much a rule to put our name/initials on everything we own, these are PeRfEcT!!

Outside of sewing (or my recent lack of) we've been battling the crud that has taken over every family I know. Since Christmas Mary Katherine has had strep, sinus infection, and stomach bug. Bam. Bam. Bam. We are on our second bottle of Mucinex Cough!! For you other mommies out there feeling terrible for wiping your child's poor red nose for the zillionth time in the last hour, here's my secret ingredient.
I received this tiny trial sized tube of lanolin from the hospital nurse when MK was born. It's actually used by nursing mothers, but it's also great for sore noses, chapped cheeks and lips, and dry/cracked skin. This brand of lanolin can be purchased at Target (among other places I'm sure).

Lastly, a couple of silly pictures. I'd laid out MK's school clothes the night before and the next thing I knew she came in wearing this. Her undies over her pj's. She'd done it "all by myselp" and actually had them on correctly.
Then we needed to put every single barrette and hair accessory in our possession in her hair.

Silly girl!!

20-Eleven!

I graduated high school in 2000 - the turn of the century was such a big to-do. Where did the time go?! Since 2000 I've graduated college, gotten married, bought our home, changed jobs, had our beautiful daughter, and most recently added Turkey Tales to my resume. I guess you can say I like to stay busy!

The post Christmas lull is wearing off and customer orders are trickling in. I have a couple of leftovers from 2010 and I'm already looking ahead to Valentine's Day and Easter. While heirlooms and jon jons are a must for church attire on Easter don't forget Easter egg hunts and pictures with the Easter bunny too! Our design department *LOL* is already brainstorming for some super-de-duper cute outfits. Be sure to STAY TUNED!

Sorry for the short sans-photo post. Just wanted to give everyone a quick update. Happy Julianuary!!!
